Residential Care Homes

Bravelight develops and maintains residential support homes to serve youth in a direction based on collaborative goals. Working with the Ministry of Child and Family Development social workers and other professionals on our client’s care team, BYS helps to implement a plan aligned with the best interests of our youth.

Caregivers create a welcoming, family feel within our homes as opposed to something more institutional. We support youth to build the skills necessary to thrive in the community. These may include but are not limited to life skills, academic support, cultural explorations, and coping strategies for emotional and behavioural regulation. We also help to nurture their positive identities and self-worth through strength-based approaches and many other modalities that are part of the BYS strategy.

Our group care residences have a 2:1 youth to caregiver ratio to keep standards of care and connection at a high level. Bravelight caregivers are also trained in trauma focused residential caregiving through the Complex Care and Intervention (CCI) resource. We hold to concepts of relationship and attachment as fundamental in being able to properly support our youth.

Specialized Residential Care Homes:

At times, by the request of MCFD, we are asked to create a specialized home for a particular youth. Once various implications and issues are identified by MCFD we move forward to create the space for a specialized therapeutic environment based on each youth’s certain needs.  This is done collaboratively with MCFD, the professionals on the youth’s care team, the youth and the youth’s family. We tailor a supportive, inclusive, caring climate for the youth to thrive in. Once the specific needs are assessed by the care team, a thorough plan is set into place and is evaluated at regular increments. As much as possible, the youth is part of this planning and evaluation.

We once again, use a trauma focused, strengths-based approach and hold the concepts of relationship and attachment as crucial in being able to properly support our youth. We work in collaboration with teams such as the Complex Care and Intervention (CCI) resource to get our youth to a state where stabilization and healing can take place.

Each youth has a lead caregiver who oversees the implementation of the plan set into motion by the care team. These homes are overseen by our resident coordinator and our executive director to ensure the utmost quality of care for our youth and their families in these often difficult times.
